If you read our previous articles  “How to Use Instagram to Promote Your Listings” and “How to Use Facebook to Promote Your Listings,” you’ve likely created a business account and are taking steps towards promoting your inventory. Growing your audience takes time, and increasing your engagement means more than just throwing up a few extra posts.

Here are some strategies you can implement to increase your engagement organically and maximize your posts’ reach.

Follow a Regular Posting Schedule

Knowing when your followers are most active is a great way to maximize the number of people who are seeing - and potentially engaging with - your content. You can view your followers’ most active periods in the insights section on most social media business pages. From here, you can plan ahead and schedule your posts to go live on times and dates you’re most likely to

While you don’t necessarily need to follow the exact same posting schedule all the time, you should at least be posting once per week on each of your social media platforms to maintain interest among your followers. By following a regular posting schedule, you can prevent forgetting to post as well as over-scheduling too many posts in a short time. Spamming your followers’ feeds with several posts a day could produce the opposite effect you’re hoping to achieve.

Keep Your Branding Consistent

No matter what social media platform you’re using, your posts should align with your brand identity and appeal to your targeted audience. You don’t have to use your brand colors or photoshop your logo onto every post you make, but users who interact with your content should be able to recognize and identify your brand voice in your posts.

Consistency also doesn’t mean sacrificing variety in your posts. We always encourage testing new content and seeing what your followers are engaging with. However, drastic differences in the quality of photographs or post copy can diminish consistency, so be sure to review your content before you post.

Leverage Your Content with Social Data

Measuring and analyzing engagement on your platform is crucial to understanding your audience. To grow your social media presence and engagement, you need to be able to adapt your social media content strategy accordingly. It’s easy to get attached to a certain type of content you enjoy posting, but if some posts are consistently receiving less engagement than others, it might be better for your platform to re-format your content or even discard it altogether in favor of other better-performing posts.

Likewise, the more you learn about what your followers do enjoy and engage with, the more content you can post that caters to their interests. Keep in mind which posts your followers are liking, commenting on, and sharing. Some content might be great for likes, while other posts might be more shareable. Knowing what content is most suited for certain types of engagement will help you plan what posts are according to your goals.

Know What’s Trending

Outside of your planned posts, you’ll want to make content surrounding popular topics before they become outdated or oversaturated with content. On social media, trends can come and go in as quickly as 24 hours. To boost your reach by taking advantage of trending hashtags, you should spend just as much time engaging with your audience on social media as you do create content for your platforms. Be sure to check each of your social media feeds daily to see what’s going on in the relevant communities and audiences who engage with your content.

Another way to increase your engagement is through paid boosting of your posts. Boosted posts are a great way to grow your social media following and reach a wider audience that you might have missed using just hashtags.
