How would you think to look for other countries than USA.

USA featured heavily on notifications. Hipstamp seems to be more suitable to American traders or at least those trading in USA issues.
I know that Ebay is a dearer site but no or low sales is no or low sales which is my issue with Hipstamp.

  • David, What do you collect? or try my hipstore Harry Patsalos Philatelics, mostly foreign stamps.
  • About 25% of my sales are to European collectors and its not for my US offerings...

  • David, I don't know how long you have been on Hipstamp, but I purchase very few USA items here. Almost everything I buy is foreign and through dealers all over the world. I for one am very happy with Hipstamp. I do supplement purchases on Ebay and Delcamp, but no very much. I always shop on Hipstamp first. Just my two cents worth.
  • David, if you are looking for Germany, Saar, Danzig or other area of the world influenced by Germany, check out https://www.hipstamp.com/store/spectre42
  • I agree with David far too heavily weighted with USA dealers and stock and sales awfull
  • Hmm - I must be doing something wrong. I am a non US dealer selling non US stamps and sales have been good at Hipstamp, and going back in history good at Stampwants and BidStart with the exception of the Stanley Gibbons Reign of Error era.
  • Dennis, I'm the same as you with good sales through the same iterations of this site, except for... (I love your term for it)... Anyway, I resumed selling here last month, and sales are starting to pick up. I'm in the USA, but my USA material is only a small portion of what I have to offer, and I ship worldwide. I still have thousands of more stamps to add to my store.

I don't see a problem, either. In the past 2 weeks I've sold 103 items (and not a single US stamp), including orders to Netherlands, Greece, and Brazil.
Some international collectors are apparently finding value in this site.
  • Well it must be my shop not having right stock and I have not seen Hipstamp for what it is. Easily fixed " I closed the store so end of issue."
  • Drama much?
  • Well I will not be far behind, waste of time here
  • Since this thread started May 8th, I got 8 orders totaling 68 items versus 0 on Delcampe... Can't complain! Especially on a new site that is still in the process of "fine tuning".

  • Yes but you are a USA based dealer which is the point. non-usa=no sales
  • I'm based in Canada...and I practically don't sell US material, approx. 20/25% of my sales come from non-US residents, mostly GB, Australia and Germany. When on a rare occasion I sell on Delcampe, the customer is 50/50 US/Europe.

  • Since the discussion started, May 8th, I have had 3 orders totaling 47 stamps. Most had been listed for 8-9 months. Success on this site, as on others, depends heavily upon variety of listings, reasonable/competitive pricing, accepting reasonable offers, and patience. We are in a hobby or business that is in a decline in interest. Interest level is certainly not what it was when I became interested in collecting/accumulating over 60 years ago; very few, if any, school stamp clubs or active, long-term clubs for the serious adult enthusiast.

    David / Steve,

As noted by our other members, we have many Sellers from outside the US (particularly Great Britain, Canada and Australia), and a very large percentage of items sold on HipStamp are non US stamps.

One of the ways in which you can help boost your sales is with a Premium or Featured Store, where our team will work closely with you to help increase sales and drive traffic to your Stores. That being said, regardless of your current Store level I'll have our team reach out to the two of you to see what we can do to help.
  • I feel the comment " Drama much " was unnecessary Mr Tyszka.
  • Just to follow up, since my last note 05/15, I got 5 more sales totaling 248 items: 3 from the US, 1 from Canada and 1 from Japan. 3 are repeat customers! I think Hipstamp is picking up speed.. at least I am!
Next step, would be an improvement in classifying certain countries and has promised a long, long time ago an improvement in Topicals which is VERY important for my European customers.

  • David Peters: I see you still have a store on Hip Stamps and I hope things have improved there for you. Recently I have started offering more lots on HS and have supported them in a small way for years under their various names. My earlier idea was that by supporting this site it would offer some competition to EB. I now think that HS is constantly improving and deserves all the support buyers and sellers can give it. So far I have not offered a great deal of US lots on the site but I do have quite a bit of US when I get around to it. Due to my increased activity here my sales went up in July and August which is about the same as July can pass that figure with one or two more sales in the next 32 hours. My sales have been British North America, Foreign and British Commonwealth. I gather you are in Australia and the shipping costs might hurt you but if you let the buyer know you will be using attractive Australian stamps on shipment this could help. Good luck and would love to have an update.
  • I buy from sellers outside the USA all the time. Just received my order from South Africa. Awaiting receipt of another from the UK. Often a few items that I need to complete something are not to be found in the USA. Besides, I like seeing all the stamps from other countries on the covers!
  • Even though I closed the store in a moment of frustration I have reopened and will see how we go.
  • Hi David,

I would recommend any time you post on the forums to include a link to your store. Several of the respondents to this thread have done that. I wouldn't even know where to begin to find your store on this website without it.

    Good luck in the future!!!

If no link is provided, you can search for a store by putting the person's name in the Stores search box. You don't need to know the store name.

  • That's good to know...
  • When I put David's name in, it comes up as MacGregor530stamps, who has more feedback in 1 year than I have in 11 years. I thought he wasn't having any sales. I guess it's all a matter of perception as I think I'm doing ok.

  • As we've seen from some people's posts here, some sellers expect to make a million dollars in the first month. Retail sales generally don't work that way, but they don't understand that, or the need for a good business model..
  • Well said, Michael!
