Bank check and internal revenue??

  • They are US Revenue stamps.
    The bank check used to be applied to checks, with a tax amount paid based on the amount of the check. (The pair at left are first printing).
    Later they stopped printing the "use of the stamp" and just wend to a standard "Revenue" stamps, that applied to anything that required collection of revenue tax. The one on the right is a 3rd issue revenue, 2cents.
    From 1940 onward, they were issued in red, various denominations, and then over printed with "Series ". The US laste issued revenue stamps in 1963.
