Has anyone used United Nations NY stamps as postage

I've heard that mail franked with United Nations Postal Administration stamps is valid if you deposit the mail at U.N. headquarters in New York City. I'm curious if anyone has done so. Is there a curbside mail box? Do you get hassled if the mail is not for official UN business? Do they accept parcels well as letter mail? Are all UN NY stamps from all years still valid for postage? Just curious

The only hassle is actually getting to the UN building to post the mail. Years past, Herrick and other stamp dealers would mail their orders from the UN, as UN postage could be bought from collectors at steep discount. Generally, the UN post office uses the same rules as USPS. Parcels are fine, and old postage is always valid.
  • Well there's a way around your international mailing problems. :)
Sounds like there is a business to be set up of mailing stamp orders from the UN!
  • Scott,

UN uses the same rules as the USPS there for you are still under the same guidelines as if you were mailing from the US.
  • Yeah, but you can still get 1/2 rate postage. :)
