My grandfather trapped beaver in Labrador and Quebec in the 19th century. It didn't make him rich. When he got older he invested in beaver pelts. Back then you could buy in to a trappers take before he went out trapping and be promised a specific number of pelts or a percentage of the total. Those didn't pan out for him either and after my father's passing, my brother found some of my grandfather's beaver pelt stock certificates, so I guess he never collected his pelts on those.
