  • Merchandise insurance coverage is provided against loss, damage, or missing contents and is limited to a maximum liability of $100.00. Additional insurance under 4.1.1 may be purchased up to a maximum coverage of $5,000.00. Nonnegotiable documents are insured against loss, damage, or missing contents, up to $100.00 per piece, subject to the maximum limit per occurrence as defined in 609.
  • Thank you for responding. We sent a rare collectible stamp to the UK with signature required. The item had a customs form on it. It never arrived. The post office declared it missing. The item never arrived in the UK; it went missing in Miami. The post office is refusing to pay the insurance claim because they said “postage stamps” are on the prohibited items list for the UK. Any thoughts you might have greatly appreciated.

  • I do not ship anymore out of the US because of the cost and problems that have been going on for the last few years. When I did I always stated the items inside on the customs form as stamps for collectors or coins for collectors since postage and currency are not allowed in many countries. When you say postage stamps they think that it is regular postage.
Also any item that has a value of 135 British pounds or more has to have the VAT taxed collected by the seller and then remitted to the HM revenues and collections. The seller also has to be registered for the collection of the VAT.

Again to many hoops to jump through to be able to sell in the UK and most of the EU.
  • Hi Bill,
Thank you for the information and advice. The stamp that went missing was used from Malaya - Perak. It’s sad to think someone in Miami probably swiped it.
    Best Regards,

There are a lot of post offices closed in Florida due to Hurricane Ian. I would think that is the cause of the missing parcel, not a postal employee stealing it.

  • Thank you Lauren. The item was sent months ago. USPS thoroughly investigated this opening a claim for international mail. It never left Miami.
