Stolen Collection returned
Recently one of the benefits of membership in a national stamp dealers association resulted in a collector getting his stolen stamp collection back.
The Canadian Stamp Dealers Association (CSDA) maintains a members only list of stamp thefts that have been reported to the CSDA. I was recently contacted by a Police Force that had found a stamp collection when they executed a search warrant. When the Police contacted me I looked at the CSDA reported thefts list and found a listing that was close to the description given by the very obviously non philatelic Police Officer. I then directed the Police to get in touch with the Executive Director of the CSDA, John Sheffield, who had a more detailed listing of the stamp collection, and the name of the owner of the collection. The owner was able to identify the collection and it was returned to him - about 10 years after it was stolen.
The Canadian Stamp Dealers Association welcomes Canadian dealers, and dealers from other countries who have a connection to Canadian Philately, to apply for membership. More information about the CSDA can be found at www.csdaonline.com.

Once that happens, unless there are numbered certs it's near impossible to ever get them back.
