Do You Remember "The Traveling Mousepad"? Of Course You Do!! :o)

Ahhh - those long-gone days of yore when StampWants was like a community clubhouse for those of us participating in the Forum.

One of the highest-profile and most fun endeavors that we cooked up was the adventure of The Traveling Mousepad. I had sort of forgotten its genesis, but I happened across a cover we made back then to help promote and support Doug Noernberg's involvement with HeartWalk Cleveland! The cover had an insert that explained the whole escapade, and if you're curious about a bit of history in which a number of the old-timers here participated, you can hopefully read it about it on the image below.

After finding the cover, I thought, "Why Not?" and decided to list it in one of my auctions! It's available for perusal here: https://www.hipstamp.com/listing/any-oold-timerso-remember-the-traveling-mousepad-from-the-stampwants-era/10639880

Ahhhhh - memories!

  • Such good memories, Dave; remembering all the forum participants and the antics we all got involved in. Certainly brought a smile to my face today - thank you!
  • So many fun pictures of TM and Phlat Stampley. Thanks for that smile, too!
  • Doug:

What happened to the Mouse Pad? Where is it now?
  • ••••• Calling All Dougs! Calling All Dougs!

Please report to the Forum - your comments are needed!

    That is all.
  • Maybe we should all send him a PM! That would get his attention. Wasn't there also an album that ya'll added your pictures to?

Yes - you're right, Luree - Doug did put together a big archive of all the photos that people took of the Traveling Mousepad while it was in their care . . . but Doug mentioned in a post several months ago that all those images were lost when BidStart was shut down. :•(
  • I thought it was a hand held type of photo album. I know the images were lost, but I guess I was remembering something else. Just a passing thought of a memory I had of a conversation with Dianne. Really too bad those images were lost. But I know some were kept by a few members, not by all. I heard that was way too much fun.
  • I don't believe there was ever a physical photo album - we all just either posted our photos or emailed them to Doug, I'm pretty sure.

You got me thinking about where my images might be . . . I found 'em and will post just a few for now to remind us of what it was like back then to take TM around to various sites here in L.A.!!

    •• At Graumann's Chinese Theater
    Bette Davis
•• Hanging with Captain Jack Sparrow
    Captain Jack Sparrow
•• At the Disney Animation Studio
    Disney Feature Animation
•• At the original Bob's Big Boy restaurant
    Hamburger Icon
  • I wish I had the photos in Dianne's yard. I know TM was taken with a few flowers and rocks. Yes, TM had a lot of fun and the things he saw!
  • Dave - I wasn't that active on bS back then (more of a buyer than a seller) but I do remember some of these pics. Great memories & thanks for posting them !
  • Hi All! Finally stumbled on the thread! Yeah, Dave's right, unfortunately. All the photos were not backed up off of StampWants, so they are lost when they were wiped out (I wish I could have know to download them!). I keep wishing Mark might be able to access old archives someday. That's a real shame. I was thinking about it when we were talking about Ein Eagle (oneeaglelover) earlier, as his pictures from Vegas were in the mix, as well as all the others. Diane, Lauren, others we ave either lost or have not heard from in a very long while. TM is sitting here with me, safely tucked away. He came out a few minutes ago to pose for a shot along with Dianne's gift from Florida that he is still holding onto as a precious remembrance. I say he has aged rather well (unlike his keeper)!

These are the only others I had copies of - on his trip to Canada, and when earning his award after a local association read about his antics in the local paper.

    Thanks!
  • Wow!! I'm glad you found this thread, Doug! -- Thank You for the great photos! I had forgotten that each 'host' had signed TM along the way, or even added stamp pins, until I saw your current photo of our nearly 9-year old rubber friend!

And thanks for setting up that Google gallery! I have forgotten about those Local Post stamps - what was the story behind those? I see several old friends represented there -Michael#s, Larsdog, GSD, Deano - as well as a few stalwarts who are still here! Where's Noernberg, though??

Here are a few more from L.A.

You're welcome, George - glad you liked 'em!

Our little activities included both buyers and sellers - it was just a fun way for those of us that visited the Forum often, to further our camaraderie!

Hope your back is doing better!
  • Awesome! Thanks Dave.

The Local Post stamps was a way to celebrate those who donated items that achieved in excess of $25 in "donations" at the 2010 auction we held. That's the one where Lars (larsdog) and Steve (GSDStamps) came to Ohio to walk with my family and I, and he was dressed as Monty Python character Dennis Moore! I affixed a Local Post stamp to a pink envelope and "carried" them around the HeartWalk and sent them to y'all. Truly carried by the Local Post! I also created a set of these...

  • Ho ho --- I had forgotten all about that Monty Python Highwayman thing! And the TM Auction! And the Local Post covers!

Wow! ----- how did we have time for all that stuff??

In your Google gallery, who is the guy with all the kids?
  • And remember this guy!

    Phlat Stampley
  •  I figured we would eventually start another thread for Phlat Stampley!
  • edited December 2016 0 LikesVote Down
The Guy with Kids is KBT - KellysBoyToy. A Michigander. He contributed "Flat Stanley" to TM's trip, and that later developed into Phlat Stampley!
  • wow = these memories are cool! I think I remember him --- was he the guy that put a model railroad track around a room up near the ceiling and documented his progress in the Forum??

Or was that Larsdog? Your memory is obviously better than mine!
  • That was Larsdog and the train in his son's bedroom. Remember Stewie the Dog and the cross-country travels of the trucker who loved Bhutan? I can't remember his name now...

    heart walk envelopes

It took me a few minutes to remember where I put these envelopes. Found them! Thank you for letting me remember.

    Great little album at Google.

    Awww. *sniff* Thanks, Luree.
  • While not all of the original pictures (unfortunately those no longer existed when we acquired bidStart), here's a slide I once put together which includes many of the originals - albeit very small!

    TM
  • On the bottom row, the first picture is Dianne, the next one was a cut-out of Elvis, TM and the Life Magazine in her little hallway in her house and the next one is with her daughter Carolyn and grandchild Paige.

    Very cool.
  • So... while posting the above, I just thought of somewhere in which I may have actually had a backup of all of the photos... and I believe I found them!

I don't have time at the moment to upload each individually, so here's a zip file if someone would like to go ahead and sort through them and post them here!

    http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=16588759439368621595
  • Quick Note: I moved topic to the Chatter section from the Seller Promos section.
  • Mark you are the best! Thanks for the zip. I'll try to work on it later.
