Face Value of USPS yearbooks

Does anyone know if there is a published list of all the face values of the annual USPS commemorative yearbooks? I have a box full from about 1976 to around 2000 and would like to figure out the face value of the stamps.
Can anyone point me to a link or reference where that info is available?

Thanks.

  • Wow. Been a while since I've seen Aladdin's lamp. Hope everything's well with you, John.

    Yes, it has been quite a while.......life took over for a while, but everything is good. Thanks for noticing, Ted.

    As I skimmed a few of the questions here, I did see some familiar "handles", so it's good to know that there are still a few folks keeping an eye on Mark!!

    This question of the face value of the yearbooks has stumped me for a few years now. I hope someone here either has a link to a site that list the face as well as retail, or has already done the legwork to compile a list of the face value of these beauties.
    I put together a list of the Canadian yearbook face values for my estate appraisal needs, so hopefully someone from US has done the same. I don't remember if Brookman or Harris put that in their catalogues.
  • Sorry I can't help with your question, John . . but it is indeed good to have you back on the Forum pages!!

    The 'old gang' grows! :smiley:
  • John, nice to "see" you again. Don't know of any catalogue that lists the yearbooks. Maybe this link will help a bit:

  • Thanks for the welcome back, kids!

    I looked at that link earlier, Jeri, but it is purely "hopeful" retail. I found the same question has been asked for several years now in a few different forums, so I am starting to look into creating the list myself. It may require opening the sealed packet of stamps inside the yearbook, but I guess somebody's got to do it.

    I'll post it here when I finish with what I have in stock.

  • Thanks, Ken. That will help me not open a couple of the sealed yearbooks, for sure!!

    Greatly appreciated.

  • Let's make it a collaboration, why not? I have a lot of already opened ones and I will list those as I have time.
    Of course that requires counting, multiplication and addition so I don't know if I can be of much help!
    I had just counted the 1996 set last night and come up with $30.03 - (90) .32 stamps, (2) .50 stamps and (1) .23 stamp.
  • I have most of these mint sets and will post up the stamp face values as time permits:
    1968 1st #1339-1340, 1342-1364, C74 (Cover #334-890): 25stamps @ $0.06, 1 @ $0.10 = $1.60
    1969 #1365-1386, C76: 22 stamps @ $0.06, 1 @ $0.10 = $1.42
    1970 #1387-1392, 1405-1422: 24 stamps @ $0.06 = $1.44
    1971 1st "Mini Album" #1396, 1423-1445: 23 stamps @ $0.06, 1 @ $0.08 = $1.46
    1972 #1446-1474, C84-85: 20 stamps @ $0.08, 4 @ $0.02, 2 @ $0.06, 2 @ $0.11, 2 @ $0.15 = $2.32
    1973 #1475-1504, 1507-1508, C86: 20 stamps @ $0.08, 1 @ $0.06, 1 @ $0.11, 1 @ $0.15 = $1.92
    1974 #1505-1506, 1525-1551: 29 stamps @ $0.10 = $2.90
    1975 #1553-1580: 26 stamps @ $0.10, 1 @ $0.08, 1 @ $0.18 = $2.86
    1976 #1629-1632, 1633/1682 (1 single), 1683-1685, 1690-1702: 21 stamps @ $0.13 = $2.73
    1977 #1704-1730: 27 stamps @ $0.13 = $3.51
    1978 #1731-1733, 1744-1756, 1758-1769: 15 stamps @ $0.13, 13 stamps @ $0.15 = $3.90
    All of the early sets that I have show varying degrees of adhesion. Not sure how I can sell them unless I include a complete set of extra mint stamps with each set. I guess I should have moved from upstate New York to Arizona before the humidity got to these!

    I'll check some more tomorrow. . . . .

  • I didn't get quite as detailed in my totals, but here is what I found:

    1973 = 2.72
    1974 = 2.90
    1975 = 2.86
    1976 = 2.73
    1977 = 3.51
    1978 = 3.90
    1979 = 4.61
    1980 = 4.20
    1982 = 5.80
    1983 = 10.48
    1984 = 8.60
    1985 = 5.94
    1986 = 7.04
    1987 = 9.02
    1988 = 10.03
    1991 = 16.81
    1997 = 33.65
    1999 = 33.55
    2000 = 32.67
    2001 = 30.00

    The 1980 definitives and postal stationery was sealed, so I didn't get a total from it. Any other missing years were still sealed and I have moved them on now, so others may be able to fill in any gaps.

  • John

    I have the 1980 definitives and postal stationery: Total is $12.13
    Envelopes Face: $1.62
    Postal Cards Face: $0.72
    Stamps Face: $9.79 (I rounded up on the mail wagon coil pair)

    The actual cost would be higher since the post cards and envelopes were sold over face.

    I also have the 1982 definitive set which I will check when I get a bit more time.
  • Does any body know how much to start a bid for 11/4 Gallatin Stamp unused mint condtition
  • I have the following sets, mostly with sealed bags. Most of the books have pictures of the stamps to be inserted from the set. Going through the books, I have come up with the following close estimates:
    1998: 79 stamps, $25.96 value (this one I have the least info, but I think this is close; book did not have pictures of actual stamps, but looking closely at sealed bag, I think this is correct)
    1999: 102 stamps, $33.29
    2002: 70 stamps, $25.30 (per USPS news release found on Internet)
    2003: 66 stamps, $24.65 (per my book review, agrees with USPS news release found on Internet)
    2004: 83 stamps, $30.94 (per my book review, agrees with USPS news release found on Internet)
    2005: 139 stamps, $51.43 (per USPS news release found on Internet)
    2006: 99 stamps, $45.68 (per my book review, agrees with USPS news release found on Internet)
    2007: 117 stamps, $48.03 (per USPS news release found on Internet; my estimate from book is $48.06); stamp values changed during year from $0.39 to $0.41.
    2008: 68 stamps, $28.66 (per my book review, agrees with USPS news release found on Internet)
