Great Britain #173 vs #179

How do you tell these two stamps apart? In the Scott catalog, the 173 is either a dark or light brown, and the 179 is olive brown. When I get a listing here for either stamp, I see what to me looks like both colors. Is there someone knowledgeable about these two issues that knows how to tell these stamps apart, or am I right about the colors? What other distinguishing marks might there be? Here is a picture of one that I have, I also have a couple of others but this one I think is a good example for this question.GB199

  • Jimmy, here's a start.

#173 is a Waterlow Printing and measures exactly 22mm vertically.

#179 is a Bradbury, Wilkinson Printing and measure 22 3/4 or 23mm On most of the 22 3/4 stamps a minute colored guide dot appears in the margin just above the middle of the upper frame line.
