"Are stamps worth any money? The same stamp that normally sells for $100 may not even be worth $10 if there are creases, thins, tears, etc. Mint with original gum US postage stamps printed in the last 70 years are, with a few exceptions, worth less than their face value and can be used for postage without worry."
The same holds true for most other countries as well.
And then there's this:
"Is stamp collecting a good investment? Only rarely do stamps prove to be a good investment, and few collectors engage in their hobby in hopes of making a profit. However, one of the beauties of collecting, unlike many other hobbies, is that stamp collections can return some money to the collector or to his or her heirs."
Remember, governments did not print stamps to make stamp collectors rich. Just because a stamp is "old" doesn't mean it is worth much of anything. With around 700,000 stamps printed since 1840, very few (percentage-wise) are valuable. Most stamps have little value (meaning market values of less than $10.00).
If you want help regarding ID of a stamp, you'll have to post a picture. Without a picture, there can be no answer. Stamp collectors should be more concerned with the ID of a stamp rather than any type of value since most stamps are common and relatively easy to obtain.
