Need help with the cachet maker signature

I came across this cover today and I am not able to decipher the signature. Anyone with better eyes than me able to figure it out or is familiar with the cachet?

  • I've got a couple of 'top FDC experts' working on it, Michael!

It sure looks familiar . . . my best guess might be the cachetmaker, 'William III".
  • Yep -- it was just confirmed to me: WILLIAM III CACHETS
  • Dave:
Thanks for the help, I love your cachets!!!

  • And I love all the great covers you offer!!
  • Thanks again Dave

William III covers were designed and produced by William E. Smith III, I would never have got Smith from that signature!
There is an interesting self authored article in First Days Magazine, March 1995 page 138 for anyone interested in learning about the birth and development of William III cover designs

  • The trick was, there is no 'Smith' in the signature -- it's just William III.

I can check out that article on my handy First Days archives CD!! (as you probably did! Such a great reference tool!)
