    Am I missing something? Every auction I ever attended one person bids and then someone outbids them and back and forth it goes until there is one bidder left. Why is that considered bad form here?

    That is the way true auctions are and they used to do that on Yahoo years ago and still do it on eBid. I do not know why any one else will not do it.
