  • Nobody wants to weigh in on this because there is a very high probability these are very common, Being cancelled and damaged only adds to the dire pronouncement that they have no value. Perhaps an eagle eyed collector here will dispute this and surprise all of us. More than likely, though, it would be merciful to just put them out of their misery.
  • Well, I would not be calling Sotheby's today.

  • It looks like a perf 11. I would guess this is a offset printing, which would make it a Type III or IV. As a used stamp, regardless of what Type it is (Too blurry to make out any of the distinguishing marks) doesn't matter much, because the values are as follow for used stamps:
    501 - (Flat Plate) - Type I - 40c
    502 - (Flat Plate) - Type II - $4
    529 - (Offset) - Type III - 50c
    530 - (Offset) - Type IV - 50c

So, no, not really much value. As heavily damaged a stamp as this is, I would say it is worth 0 cents.

  • ... but would add great classic philatelic flare to an art project!

I'd agree Doug got an Idea that could put these kinda 0 value rated stamps to use 1 I seen is coffee mugs/cups could even Frame these with Puzzle Glue just need many more even 1 I think be cool is a Home Made Stamp Wallet Made with Authentic Stamps not excluding some internal material n bonding agents such as string or glue the ideas are endless with a mindful aspect. After such projects the value is of course up to the buyer what they willing to pay but then the creator may say it's rare n worth a tone in reality it was made from junk and could be worth 0.00 up to maybe $100.00+ if it's a well done project item. Look up 1 of a kind projects I bet some are worth Millions imagine and entire wall covered in stamps of every one ever made in the world to commemorate them would be over 200 countries well over 1,000,000 different and the color verity way more then a rainbow so taste the skittles lol

Also don't confuse catalogue value with real value. These stamps sell on HipStamp for....

    501 - (Flat Plate) - Type I - 40c ...... 1 cent
    502 - (Flat Plate) - Type II - $4 ...... 8 cents
    529 - (Offset) - Type III - 50c ...... 1 cent
    530 - (Offset) - Type IV - 50c ...... 1 cent

plus 7 cents each per stamp shipping and $1.42 base shipping for the order.
I am currently processing an order where I just sold the first 3 stamps for a total of 65 cents.
  • Brett, I think your wallpaper idea was already done, a long time ago, when "every one ever made in the world" was a British 1 or 2 penny stamp.
  • It looks very much like the Offset printing from 1918. The P and O of postage are joined (no line of color separating them) Most likely it is Scott # 530 Type IV Scott Catalog Value about 35c in undamaged condition.
  • that's cool John gonna look that up see if I can find images.
Wonder if anyone here be interested in a homemade wallet made from stamps perhaps even customize what color stamps or style you'd prefer. Possibilities.
  • Roger,
It is an offset, but in fairness, that image is too grainy to determine with any certainty if it's a Type III or Type IV. But it also doesn't matter much given the values are the same either way, and that this stamp is so damaged. We've literally burned more electricity in storing this threads comments than that stamp will ever generate.
