Changeling

On the left is Ceylon # 267 and on the right is the same stamp, different color that I cannot find in Scott's catalogue, I believe the stamp to be a changeling, a nice one at that. If it's not a changeling any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.img024

    Yes, it's a changeling. You can see this effect best if you magnify the area around his left eye (well technically he right eye, but the one on the left).
    You'll see the red-orange pigment in what looks like a reverse black-eye.
  • Thanks Scott that one is going into my collection, A very nice one at that.
  • It is one of the more even changelings I've seen. But the original color is still detectible in the fine detail edges. The stamp must have been exposed to sulfur at some point in its life, as this is what usually results in the change from red/orange to brown. Similar to C1 in US airmails.
