  • Maybe contact Sotherby's?

But seriously, where are you located?
  • You must understand that most non collectors have similar sentiments when they either get an old album in a garage sale, or inherit a collection from a departed relative. The excitement that vast hidden treasures exist RARELY intersect with the reality of what they have. Contact the American Philatelic Society and they will direct you to credible souls who will tell you the truth. Good luck.download

I"ve noticed that you have visited this forum exactly once. If you really think you need an appraisal, why haven't you googled the term and found some serious dealers? There are several out there, and some will travel for collections with catalog values north of $200,000. Of course, only serious folks need apply...
  • I don't want to be cynical, but every one of these I've responded to have basically just vanished.
Post some photos, or no response...

Google "I just inherited a stamp collection". You'll find comprehensive advice from the APS and several dealers on how to determine if your collection has value and how to arrange an appraisal or sale.
Frankly speaking, no dealer will pay you a visit unless you can provide an enticing description of what is in the collection. Educate yourself so that you can describe the key items in the collection and arrive at your own idea of value prior to seeking an offer from a dealer. After you have done your homework, ask a family member to take the key pieces of your collection to a local dealer for an opinion. Feedback from an informed source will help you decide what your next step should be.
Remember that dealer must make money off anything he/she purchases from you. Just as in a negotiation on Pawn Stars, there will be a significant difference between retail value and what the dealer is willing to pay.
