1910 Germany Poster Stamp 50th Anniversary German Pomological Society Eisenach 1860-1910. Recruit Members MNHThis Poster Stamp Commemorates The 50th Anniversary Of The Deutscher Pomologen Verein, The German Pomological Society, Founded In 1860 And Celebrated In 1910 At Eisenach. The Central Image Shows A Fruit-Bearing Tree Laden With Apples, Symbolizing The Study And Cultivation Of Fruit Varieties That Was The Society’s Purpose. The Years 1860 And 1910 Appear Prominently On Either Side Of The Trunk, Marking The Jubilee. Surrounding The Tree Is A Bold Geometric Border In Black, Gold, And Cream, With The Inscription Deutscher Pomologen Verein Eisenach. At The Bottom Appears The Phrase Werbt Mitglieder, Which Translates As Recruit Members, Showing That The Stamp Functioned Both As A Commemorative And As A Call For Ongoing Support And Participation In The Society. The Decorative Triangular Motifs In The Corners Reflect Early 20th Century German Graphic Design Influences, Bridging Between Jugendstil Ornament And The Geometric Simplicity That Would Soon Lead Into Modernist Styles. This Stamp Represents Not Only The Pride Of The German Pomological Movement But Also The Broader Popular Practice Of Issuing Poster Stamps For Scientific Societies, Agricultural Organizations, And Trade Associations In The Early 1900s. The Example Shown Retains Its Strong Colors, Clean Printing, And Clear Perforations With Only A Light Horizontal Fold Visible Through The Center. Visible Text (Rewritten In Sentence Form): German: Deutscher Pomologen Verein Eisenach 1860 1910. Werbt Mitglieder. — English Translation: German Pomological Society Eisenach 1860 1910.
