Item DescriptionUp for auction is a beautiful and exceptionally rare cover from political prisoner Schlomo Kalish who was being held in the Gilgal prison camp in Kenya and where all mail was routed to Jerusalem, Palestine. Postmarked 1944. In very good condition, roughly opened on the left side.
During and right after WW 2 the British government in Palestine arrested and imprisoned many Zionists and moved them to prison camps in other parts of the British empire. Irgun member Joseph Winitzky was among those prisoners. This is the cover he sent while imprisoned in Gilgal camp in Kenya. Note it was censored by the criminal investigation division and then forwarded. Very rare cover.
