When the italians surrendered in 1943 the germans took over the occupation and administration of the provence. The first postage issued under the germans used italian stamps overprinted with an eagle and "provinz laibach" in german and slavic. In 1945 they issued a short-lived set printed for the occupied area. The area was liberated by a combination of partisans and soviet forces in 1945._
