This is the third edition of this reference resource which remains in high demand for collectors. The "Fundamentals of Philately," written by the stamp collecting brothers Leon Norman Williams and Maurice Williams, was first serialized before being compiled into a hardback volume (the first hardback is listed in the store). This is the APS serialized third edition. It's four volumes will give philatelists a graduate level course on all the things stamp collecting from stamp design and stamp papers to printing.
The Williams brothers devote their literary work to the kinds of paper which have been used to produce stamps, which knowing can actually help philatelists gain insights into faults and how to determine them. In addition, there is verbage dedicated to the physical printing methods and the subsequent impact on stamp designs. And, just to be thorough, these volumes address evaluating perforations s well as gum.
