The American Philatelic (Association) Society is dedicated to perserving the integrity of the hobby while also advancing the cause of stamp collecting ... and works toward that mission in part each month with the publication of "The American Philatelist" magazine. In a recent auction house sale this was discovered and is now available for sale.
The 1887 predecessor to today's glossy magazine was originally an eight-page metro-sized paper page folded neatly to create eight magazine-sized pages for charter and new membership. Makes for an interesting look at APS in those early days -- seems many of the concerns plaguing collectors then still continue to plague the hobby to one extent or another today. Please take a moment to enjoy the images of the first and last page of this issue.
The paperback for sale is previously owned, but exceptionally well care for through its existence.
Title: The American Philatelist
Publisher: The American Philatelic Association, Altoons, Pennsylvania
Publication Date: May 10, 1887
Publication Condition: Reference Copy, with minimal ware and very suitable for framing, if desired.
Many philatelic reference books are collectible in their own right since many renouned hobby experts are now out of print. Most are valued for their collectibility based on condition, rarity, and to some extent their use as a reference. Condition is the key and is highly subjective, so study the images, read the content, ask questions, and work with a reliable collector-dealer to get what you want.
Please note, payment is expected within three (3) days; thank you. And remember, safe secured shipping is free. This will ship media mail, unless the buyer wishes to pay for a faster postal service.
Every effort is made to generate a stellar experience for buyers and reciprocal feedback is always appreciated. Bookmark the store and check back often for new opportunities.
