Item Description
1936 Germany Poster Stamp 3rd National Reich Food Estate Exhibition Frankfurt Artist Ludwig Hohlwein(1874 - 1949) MNH. Since 1934, the Reich Food Estate organized large exhibitions to effectively present the agricultural economy and policy of the German Reich, as well as the blood and soil ideology, to the public. The aim was to promote agricultural careers and prepare Germany for a high level of self-sufficiency. Due to the war, the exhibition in Leipzig (1939) was the fifth and last in this series; the sixth was originally scheduled to take place in Vienna in 1940. This Is A German Poster Stamp Promoting The 3rd Reichsnäherstands-Ausstellung (3rd National Reich Food Estate Exhibition), Held In Frankfurt Am Main From May 17–24, 1936. The Illustration Shows A Smiling Young Woman In A Bright Red Vest And White Headscarf, Carrying A Large Sheaf Of Wheat In Her Arms. The Background Includes Blue Sky And White Geese, reinforcing a pastoral, idealized rural atmosphere. The composition uses dynamic diagonals, bright primary colors, and healthy, optimistic facial expression typical of mid-1930s German propaganda art. In the lower right, there's a small Z artist’s monogram, which may be attributable to a commercial illustrator working for the regime or an art bureau at the time. This Poster Stamp Was Produced Under The Third Reich As Part Of A Larger Campaign Promoting Traditional Female Roles In Labor, Especially Domestic and Textile Work, aligned with the regime’s ideology of Kinder, Küche, Kirche ("children, kitchen, church"). The event was part propaganda, part trade exhibition, showcasing domestic skills and productivity among women. The stamp’s stylized depiction of rural productivity ties into the Blood and Soil (Blut und Boden) ideology, glorifying agrarian life and German heritage. While this is a vivid example of 1930s German poster stamp design, it is also a product of its time—a piece of visual propaganda issued under a totalitarian regime. As with all Nazi-era ephemera, it is studied for historical and design reasons but must be handled with awareness of its ideological context. Chat GPT
