Source svalbard-stamps.com: D/S Lyngen was built in 1931 for Troms Fylkes Dampskibsselskab (TFDS) designed for the longer local routes in Northern Norway. The ship was ice-strengthened for the fjord ice and had excellent comfort and the lounges were top notch at this time and was certified to take 50 passengers.
From 1934 to 1964, except for the war years, the ship had a regular route to Svalbard during the summer season. The first years it departed from Narvik with tourists arriving by train. The ship also brought supplies and mail to the meteorological station on Bjørnøya, Longyearbyen, Ny-Ålesund and to hunters on Spitsbergen. From Ny-Ålesund the ship sailed to Magdalenafjorden and all the way up to the ice edge, often at 80 degrees north. The tour was scheduled for 14 days.
From 1938 the ship changed its departure point to Tromsø. The war stopped the Svalbard route in 1940 and did not start again until 1951. D/S Lyngen made 153 trips across the North Sea with 8181 passengers, mail and various goods until retired in 1965.
These stamps from Spitsbergen/Svalbard valid postage for letters and parcels shipped between mainland and Spitsbergen/Svalbard and for local distribution on Spitsbergen/Svalbard between the settlements. First issue was released in March 2020. The stamps are bi-lingual, ШПИЦБЕРГЕН (= Spitsbergen) in cyrillic letters and SVALBARD in latin letters and are non-currency valued but based on weight stated in grams like this: 1000г = 1000 gram.
