United States, Scott 1d, used. 1847 5c imperf Benjamin Franklin, brown orange shade with bold red grid cancel, four enormous margins, sound and attractive. A rare shade, fresh, bright & VF. Accompanied by a 1993 PF Certificate & a 1996 PSE Certificate for Scott 1b, which Scott lists today as the more common "orange brown" shade. Both certs specify the scarce "brown orange" shade for this stamp and the discrepancy is due to Scott adding the 1d "brown orange" to its listed colors in 2006. Prior to 2006, Scott did not list the "brown orange" shade, but expertising services were issuing certificates for "brown orange", a distinct shade for this stamp, a long time before Scott recognized it in 2006. 2021 Scott US Specialized CV: $1,000.00.
