Not everyone is doing the wrong thing but those that are maybe this thread will help you do better S/H and it'll also make your buyer's more happy just FYI

:-) one of my pet peeves also. I generally do not speak or complain of it though. :-) I either ship in a stay flat about 6x4 or 9x6 (or larger sheet size) or a common envelope. Orders over $15 are tracked. Ebay orders up to $24 are tracked in envelope if only a couple small stamps and USA.
Stayflats are free on Ebay so can be used here if you have them else they cost about $1 each at uline (includes shipping)
Just cover the Ebay branding with the label. :-) I buy a lot everywhere so I can understand the complaints on this. The envelopes I ship out are small size envelopes and inside is a folded in half envelope forms a pocket that holds #102 card perfectly and prevents stamps slipping out-- and at least one #102 card (I use new but used is cool) this provides protection that gives a little and not too stiff and #102 is reusable if new. Items have never been reported damaged in mail. never. Stayflats are classic and the best for larger lots. all are tracked. 102 cards come in different types.. some are low quality and thinner.. be aware when purchasing them.. I think all are from Canada?
I HATE tape. I never use any form of tape "inside" an envelope or stayflat- outside i do add tape. NEVER. it is not needed in any form if packed correctly. I buy a lot and most items are embalmed in tape, sometimes ruining the stamps or requiring great care to save the stamps from the taped mess. I do not complain when this happens as to be frank, just happy to receive the items and i figure the seller is clueless. :-) OK, i'm a little clueless , also :-)

Scan_20211019 this is the markings on best 102 cards - most other cards are not of this quality. but some exist i guess. any variance in markings from this, i found to be inferior. my experience and I'm sure there are exceptions. These cards are thick and protect and are around $50 shipped per 1,000 boxed.

Stamp is Revolution era Philippines revenue for Cattle :-)

also forms an additional pocket below if needed for addition card - #102 fits perfect so items can not slip out and adds protection. I have shipped thousands of these out.. never had a complaint of damage of any type. I sometimes add an empty #102 as additional protection if concerned. I also do this as an insert in a stayflat with an added smaller shipping envelope - same as one I would put a stamp or Ebay 53c label on.

stay flats are free on Ebay.. else are about $1 each - I always cover the stupid branding with a shipping label :-) this is the smallest size they offer of 3 sizes. no branding on the backs (yet!) :-)

If you shop around around on Ebay you can get 400-500 6x8 rigids for about $100 shipped depending on the seller you get them from. (Non branded) and at least a couple of sellers will sell them in boxes of 100 for less than $30 per 100. shipped.
  • Good to Know Michael.. i might add that there are "lots of ways to ship".. i just added the way I do it. not saying my way is better.

    Jerry,

Over time I found that Uline is good but can be a bit pricey. But because they are very large and handle a lot things they do have some odd sizes that the other sellers don't carry. (I get their cats from time to time because I have purchased from them.)

Also some of the sellers will prorate down to 50 for about the same price on some of them.

Thanks for the useful info Michael, perfect examples Jerry exactly what I'd like to see more people do and like said packaging and materials and sizes can range greatly but it's more or less the effort put into your business and how you want your customers to react hopefully the 2 thumbs up kind if your doing things correctly!
As for those 102 cards I can make those with Index card using the backs without ink and clear plastic that's also sturdy like the the kind you put baseball cards in the soft kind and a little glue and a simple penny can do the trick if you wanna be 100% you can add layer protection between the glue and the plastic so no glue to stamp damage! I like to make stuff for stamping collections or display another cool one is simple waxpaper cut into size and folded basically a glassine and same visibility lol could also work great for full sheets that are larger then the normal n small sheets or S/S, FDC This hobby definitely has me being creative!
Off topic but I wonder how stamps on a wallet or mug or even Christmas ornament would look if you can think of it logically it can be done that said is there a category for stuff like that on this site? I can almost bet cash that someone on hipstamp has a mug/coffee cup with a stamp/stamps on it and probably a picture on the wall of a stamp or series they best like or is most meaningful!
Please continue if others wanna contribute to this forum topic of S/H!
Best regards Brett from Moulton Stamps!
  • I use #10 or larger mailing envelopes but have never found it necessary to purchase stay flats. Stiffeners are essential and I save my cereal boxes for this purpose. They may look look professional, but they have great utility in that they can be cut to accommodate anything from a single stamp, a FDC, or a full sheet. Glassines of various sizes are also important, but wax paper or plastic wrap can be employed in a pinch.
