Does this stamp have a "normal" postal cancellation?

What does the postmark on this stamp represent? The stamp is Great Britain #180, but the postmark doesn't have a date (I don't think so, anyway). I'm wondering if it is from some sort of military outpost. Any increased value from the normal CV?

Thanks

  • I believe the cancel is Threadneedle St. I had a customer whose father had all his suits made in England and were mailed to him wherever he was in the world from Threadneedle St. According to my customer all the parcels had hiigh value stamps on them. I'm not familiar with British Post Office regulations at that time, but in many countries parcels did not have a dated cancel

Threadneedles Street ('s' at end) it is, near Charing Cross. Its a London marking, the B.O., E.C. standing for Branch Office, East Central (London is broken into zones like this, for navigation and for mail, as part of their "zip codes"). I grew up in S.W.1(South West), the postal code for my section expanding to SW1 X9JD when I was there.
  • Thank you both, Dennis and George, for some fascinating information and postal history. How very appropriate that a tailor would be on or very near Threadneedles St. - but I imagine that's how the street got its name in the first place

    Thanks again - John
