Is HipStamp the dumbest name ever conceived?

I am honestly not trolling here ... I just can barely bring myself to reopen my Bidstart Shop on a Site with such a lame name ... we are surely just condemned to be buying from one another ... Thoughts?

  • People are entitled to opinion, but I pay more attention to functionality and effectiveness than a name. I mean, who ever thought Google was a cool name? I mean, they named it after some huge unfathomable number. And Google's parent... Alphabet? I would not let a name dissuade you.
  • I actually like the name and perhaps it might persuade some millennials or hipsters to start collecting

I'd say the success of the site already is proof that it's working out just fine. Yahoo, PayPal, Hulu, the list goes on - a memorable name works whether it's one that people like or not. Infoseek, America Online, names that are more informative and utilitarian don't necessarily mean the business will last.

    I think HipStamp works.
  • Andrew, my three millennials all find it rather amusing that hip and stamp are joined together in one word. So unfortunately, the new name has not persuaded them that Mum's daggy obsession with stamps has suddenly become cool. :)
  • I always liked the name stampwants but them I'm an old set in my ways codger
  • Deborah, I view stamps as art so collecting in my opinion is very hip. It is also much more affordable then buying any Picasso's. St-Thomas-Pablo-Picasso-Artist-Stamp
  • I agree with you Andrew. They are little pieces of art.
  • I liken them to little windows that we can look through to see so much about the world around us and its history.
  • "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet".. Juliet.. Romeo & Juliet William Shakespeare. At a time when my e-Bay & Delcampe Stores appear to be 'self destructing' The name 'HipStamp' is the sweetest sound in the English language. Thank You Mark.. Thank you fellow dealers whom I have met.. Thank-you customers from many parts of the globe. May we all share Health.. Happiness & Prosperity in 2017. Happy New Year HipStamp!!
  • For a seller, at the end of the day the important thing is "Am I selling here at a profit" - and if I am selling at Hipstamp and making a profit then I am not going to worry about what the place is called. Our traditional stamp publications have names that have nothing to do with stamps, ie Mekeels & Linn's but they provide a venue for selling stamps. But I still miss Stampwants :) .

OMG I am convinced! :) Given that 'We are the Stamp Collecting / Collectibles Class', it seems enough that it pleases the majority of those who Sell Stamps, because what Collector does not? At least, duplicates and that raising funds buy selling within a community to expand one's wants makes complete sense. I actually now feel that 'hip' and the handle-bar mustache is a good laugh @Boss .... so Yeah De Facto 'HipStamp works' and for most of us Ebay and Del Campe no longer do so.

I'm going to dedicate all my efforts into Hipstamp and postcard/comic where appropriate .... safe in the knowledge that Hip Community is Competent Technologically and is Growing Fast too!

    It's exciting :D Onwards & Upwards B)
