"Ted ------- Thank you for doing this every day! I'm enjoying seeing what relevant stamps you come up with as much as learning the history behind them!"
Thanks, Dave. I'm having fun looking up events and finding stamps for them. It's a learning experience in history AND stamps.
Oct 18, 1867: The rules for American football are formulated at a meeting in New York among delegates from Columbia, Rutgers, Princeton and Yale universities.
It seems I was a victim of fake news. One of my internet history sources cited Oct 17 as the day Cornwallis surrendered at Yorktown (see above). In fact, Oct 19th is the correct day, and that website also has the event listed on this day. (Crazy, isn't it?)
The author of the previous post regrets the error.
Here's an historic event we can all sink our teeth into:
Oct 19, 1917: The first doughnut is fried by Salvation Army volunteer women for American troops in France during World War I. (So, why was June 3 selected for National Donut Day?)
