Making Sense of a Pile of Washington's and Franklim's

I'm looking for a bit of advice on how to go about sorting out an envelope stuffed with at least a couple hundred miscellaneous Washington's and Franklin's from the late 1800's and early 1900's. Most of these have been soaked off and they're all ajumble. I guess I should just get in there and begin sorting out watermarks and perfs. I'm just looking for some advice on how to get going on this project. I'm assuming I'm not going to run into any indistinguishable stamps here, that is each stamp will be uniquely identifiable; it's just a matter of finding the unique features. Any advice is welcome. Thanks.

Title should say "Washington's and Franklin's." Sorry about that.

Actually, it should say "Washingtons and Franklins," unless you are talking about "Washington's" false teeth, or "Franklin's" bifocals.

Ted corrects everything in sight-a pupil of great vision who lens his wisdom without making a spectacle of himself. He once told me that Washington's slaves also had wooden teeth and thus were indentured servants..... (collective groan)

Sorting Washington/Franklins is a form of slow torture reserved for those who start a post with "how valuable is this old ....? and then proceed to show a blurry picture of something that vaguely looks like a stamp on a faded old towel
