  • I do not know Sam.. But I do know I am getting quality Bids worldwide. My best customers are in Poland. and I never had a problem sending to Italy. whatever Mark is doing.. its working for me
  • Dan, yes HipStamp is working for me just fine.
But I was thinking today, collectors in New Zealand for example, how do they know HipStamp even exists. How does any country/Territory know of the existence of HipStamps.
In what publications, online or bricks and mortar(paper magazines etc.) is HipStamps promoted.
A web site cannot just be uploaded (HipStamp) and the global community all of a sudden all over the world knows of it's existence.
So the question is "As a Global site for the sale of stamps and all things Philatelic, where do the owners of HipStamp regularly promote it's existence to the World".

  • Most of it is word of Mouth... I have never seen anything advertised anywhere (Google Adsense, etc.). Most of the customer base is the good old die hards of StampWants / BidStart.

I read a snipit that SG had 2 Million lined up for international advertising, but then again, in that article it did not mention if that was Monopoly Money, or even Canadian Tire Money??? I doubt British Pounds nor American Dollars were even thought of, since SG is but a whisp in the wind...

We must keep the word active with in our own communities, Stamp Clubs, etc.

    My own 2 cents tonight.

    Best to everyone in 2017!

  • Since things got a bit more "normal" after merging BS into Hipstamp, I have been getting regular emails promoting something about Hipstamp ( and Hippostcard), or special offers at Hipstamp, etc, so MR is obviously working his existing mailing list - something that was an afterthought during the SG Reign of Error. I have received at least one email about Hipstamp that was from Linn's. Linn's will rent out part of its email list for what they call a blast - and it ain't cheap. I have been getting new bidders/buyers from places other than the US, ie Canada, Australia, Great Britain, even when current exchange rates would not encourage bidding on my US $ offerings so MR has somehow figured out how to approach those marketplaces.
  • " the SG Reign of Error "

  • I've seen ads for HipStamp show up in the articles I read on my NY Times smartphone app, so some effort is definitely being made. Google knows enough about me to place those when the article is served up for me.
  • I have seen ads on different sites myself so it seems Mark is doing a wonderful job promoting. The Black Penny giveaway is a great attraction as well. In just 6 months entries have increased from 2641 to 11818 which is a pretty good indication of growth. I want to see a picture of his stash of Black Pennies.
  • I see a Quality Advertisement for HipStamps most every day on the BBC News website. It appears on most pages. If I check English Premier League Standings, The war in Syria, The goings on in Asia.. I see Marks good (and most appreciated) efforts. This huge exposure can only help those of us who are selling worldwide.
  • BBC News, i suppose that is where Winston Churchill gave his speeches during WWII.
    I went for a look, ???

  • Sam, these are not fixed ads, the way they would be in print. They are "served up" to an online viewer, often based on what Google and other analytics companies have determined your interests, demographics, etc.

So, the ad that one person would see on the BBC or NY Times site is very likely not the same ad that someone else would see, unless they were also identified as a stamp collector, plus other factors as well. It's a fairly complicated set of algorithms that determines who sees what.
  • Right. It's just like, when I buy a new printer off of Amazon, and then start getting ads served to me for that very printer. Or when I check my listings on ebay, and then get ebay ads asking if I'm still interested in that item.

Well I use this, it's free, and stops all those AdChoice adverts loading up when you go to Ebay.

Phil, if you want to stop these fixed adds, that google, ebay(AdChoice), or who ever pay money to to have these adverts load up before you can actually use the page/url you want to use, taking up your bandwidth, install adblock, works jist fine for me.
I use Chrome, 10 minutes surfing today on Ebay, AdBlock stopped 26 AdChoice(paid for by Ebay) loading.

  • And just a side note, some sites recognize I am using AdBlock and ask me to download, ":The New Version" of AdBlock, don't do it, it's Malware.
  • Thanks for the tip Sam.
  • Thanks, Sam. I am aware of it, and use it on my computer. However, had I implemented on my smart phone, then I wouldn't have known that HipStamps had an advertising campaign at all, so there's that.

Also, I know that Mark isn't thrilled that people use an adblocker here, so I chose not to mention it publicly.
  • Phil, I understand what you are saying.
But sometimes i go to a site and it takes ages to load, and it's all because of the PAID adverts, it's an absolute pain.
Up to date computers that have all the latest cpu and ram might cope, but mate, there is a heap of us out there that may be using a computer that 5 years old.
If a page does not download within 30 seconds most will close it, that's just how it is these days on the internet. And to make things worse, if one decides to wait for the AdChoice(Ebay) crap to open, when you select the next page one goes through it all again.
I have been on the Net for 40 years.
