Item Description

1771 stampless folded letter to England, with 2-line straightline "New York" on reverse, various rate markings on front.  Visciously murdered with scotch tape around the edges, which is a real shame.  There are heavy internal splits to the letter, but it's datelined "Niagar".  Perhaps a reference to Niagara?  If so, it would be a VERY early item from western New York.  ASCC Value $650+ from 20 years ago.  Probably worth the restoration work to get rid of the tape!
