1840s free frank cover from washignton DC. Red CDS, handstamp imprint of the Navy Department Bureau of Medicine & surgery. Free frank of William P.C. Barton at top with ink stain and messy end (Barton apparently had trouble with his pen when signing this one), handstamp department and bureau imprint, some edge wear and a f ew light vertical folds. Addressed to NJ politician George Sykes, who served in the house 1843-1847. Barton served 1842-1844 (ASCC $150 for his frank).Your satisfaction is guaranteed.
