1842 stampless free frank from the treasury department, from the auditor's office for the post office departmment. Handstamp office imprint, red CDS from Washington, addressed to Pikeville MD. Free frank of Elisha Whittlesey (1783-1863), who served in congress as a representative from Ohio 1823-1838 prior to his service as sixth auditor of the treasury (for the PO department) 1841-1843. He later served as first comptroller of the treasury. Cover only, with no inner content, but docketing provides date.Your satisfaction is guaranteed. APS member since 1992 and Hip seller since 1996.
