Unusual 1852 stampless folded letter from Mount Clemens, MI to North Bristol NY. CDS and two strikes of paid 3 in circle; presumably double rate due to weight and the rate handstamps are meant to be read conjunctively. This is seen on west coast rates but seldom seen on double rate mail. Ink stain on back; business letter content refers to enclosing a mortgage (no longer present) which accounts for the size of the piece and the double rate.
