1872 Spain Carlist Insurrection 12 Centavos de Peseta King Amadeo Imperforate Used 3 Bar Cancel. SOLD AS REPRINT, FORGERY, REPRODUCTION OR BOGUS ISSUE! (NO RETURNS ON THIS ITEM FOR ANY REASON!!!). Stamps issued during the Carlist insurrection in northern Spain (1873-1874). Don Carlos attempted to seize the throne of Spain in 1872 but he lost and went to France in 1876. Used stamps of this period are very rare (careful with forged cancels, I have also seen them on reprints). Navarre and Vascongadas are both regions in Spain that held different views on the state between 1876 and 1936. Navarre is a single province in northern Spain that borders the Basque Country, La Rioja, Aragon, and southern France. Vascongadas is made up of three provinces: Araba, Bizkaia, and Gipuzkoa. The original Basque kingdom included all of modern Navarre, the three Vascongadas, and the modern French Basque country. Carlos María de Borbón y Austria-Este, self-titled "Duke of Madrid" and "Count of Alcarria" was a Carlist claimant to the throne of Spain under the name of Carlos VII. On October 3, 1868, Carlos became the Carlist dynasty's claimant to the Spanish throne after his father abdicated, although a good part of the Carlists had already had him as their king since 1864. However, in the end it was the military route. which prevailed, when Carlos gave his supporters the order to revolt on April 21, 1872, in what was the beginning of the Third Carlist War. Google AI
