Postal Route & Markings From: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania To: Princeton, New Jersey Sending Postmark: Philadelphia, PA, duplex cancel with the numeral "1" in the killer, dated March 21, 1884 (Friday) at 10:30 PM. Receiving Postmark: Princeton, N.J., circular date stamp on the reverse, dated March 22, 1884 (Saturday). Transit: The cover traveled approximately 40 miles and was delivered the next day. Postage: A 2-cent stamp paid the first-class letter rate. Addressee and Historical Details The cover is addressed to Francis F. Kane (1866-1955), who was a student at Princeton University at the time (Class of 1886). Kane later became a prominent Philadelphia lawyer and served as the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
