This is a postal history cover from 1886. Postal Route & Markings From: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania To: Princeton, New Jersey Sending Postmark: Philadelphia, PA, duplex cancel with the numeral "12" in the killer, dated April 26, 1886 (Monday) at 1:30 AM. Receiving Postmark: Princeton, N.J., circular date stamp on the reverse, also dated April 26, 1886. Transit: The cover traveled approximately 40 miles and was delivered on the same day. Postage: A 2-cent stamp paid the first-class letter rate. Addressee and Destination Details The cover is addressed to Francis F. Kane (1866-1955), who was a senior at Princeton University (Class of 1886) at the time. Kane later became a prominent Philadelphia lawyer and served as the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. The destination is University Hall, which was a large dormitory at Princeton from 1876 until its demolition in 1916.
