Item Description
Postcard sent on November 26, 1890, from the Campur estate in the Alta Verapaz department, Guatemala, to Montevideo, Uruguay. The card passed through Livingston on december 10, 1890, and New Orleans on December 16, 1890.The campur estate was one of the many coffee plantations managed by German immigrants, who played a key role in Guatemala's coffee economy. This postcard was addressed to Engineer Jacobo Falkman at the Swedish Consulate in Montevideo, and is signed by Alberto. The message, written in german, may contain fascinating insights from that time.
In 1884, Richard Sapper arrived in Cobán, initially managing the ‘’Chiacam'' plantation before partnering with Nostitz and Dieseldorff. He later established his own enterprise, acquiring multiple estates, including ''Campur''. ''Chirixquiché'' and ''Chajmayic''. From his headquarters at the ''Chimax'' estate. He oversaw operations and hired German collaborators for local management. This historical background makes this postcard a valuable artifact of Guatemala's economic and migratory history.
