This is a postal history cover from 1902, postmarked on a Railway Post Office (RPO) route. Postal Route & Markings From: St. Albans & Boston R.P.O. To: New York City, New York Sending Postmark: St. Albans & Boston R.P.O., TR. 6 (Train 6), duplex cancel dated January 7, 1902 (Tuesday). Receiving Postmarks: Two backstamps are present: New York, N.Y., dated January 8, 1902 (Wednesday) at 8:30 PM. New York, N.Y. - STO, dated January 9, 1902 (Thursday) at 2 AM. Transit: The cover was postmarked on the RPO line running between St. Albans, Vermont, and Boston, Massachusetts, a distance of approximately 250 miles. It then traveled an additional 215 miles to New York City. Postage: A 2-cent stamp paid the first-class letter rate. Addressee and Destination Details The cover is addressed to 143 West 16th Street, New York City. The address is in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan. The original building is no longer extant; the site is now occupied by a modern residential building.
