Very Rare 1906 Great Britain Poster Stamp Stanley Gibbons Limited Postage Stamp Dealers London 391 Strand 97 Gracechurch St International Philatelic Exhibition Royal Horticultural Society’s Hall Westminster, London May 1906 Used Light Cancel At Top No Gum This Private Advertising Poster Stamp Was Issued By Stanley Gibbons Limited, One Of The World’s Most Famous Stamp Dealers Based In London. The Design Features An Intricate Red Frame Surrounding A Black-And-White Engraved View Of The Palace Of Westminster And Big Ben Along The River Thames, Emphasizing London As The Center Of Their Operations. The Company Name “Stanley Gibbons, Limited” Appears Prominently At The Top, With The Word “London” Centered Below. The Side Panels List Two Key Business Addresses: “391 Strand” On The Left And “97 Gracechurch St” On The Right, Both Major London Locations Associated With Stanley Gibbons During The Late 19th And Early 20th Centuries. The Bottom Panel Reads “Postage Stamp Dealers,” Signifying Their Role As Specialists Serving The Expanding Global Market For Stamp Collecting. These Advertising Labels Were Distributed To Promote Their Reputation And Services And Are Collectible In Their Own Right As Ephemera Connected To One Of The Philatelic World’s Most Influential Firms. Visible Text (Rewritten In Sentence Form): English: Stanley Gibbons Limited London 391 Strand 97 Gracechurch St Postage Stamp Dealers Country Of Origin: United Kingdom Year Of Issue: Circa 1890s–1910sThe Second Picture Shows Information I Gathered From The Web From The The Stamp Forum Board And Is Not Included In The Sale Of The One Stamp.Discovery of Stanley Gibbons ‘Stamp’From SG Auctions we recently received a nostalgic item of ephemera which none of us had seen before—an engraved ‘Gibbons’ label of contemporary stamp size and design depicting the Houses of Parliament, and bearing the ‘PB’ imprint of Perkins Bacon, the pioneer stamp and banknote printers. The inclusion of the Gracechurch Street (City) branch address as well as that of 391 Strand pinpoints the date of ‘issue’ as 1905–06, and it is likely that the label was produced as a publicity ‘sticker’ for the International Philatelic Exhibition held at the Royal Horticultural Society’s Hall in Westminster, London, during May 1906. It is coloured black and lake-brown. Also interesting is the fact that Perkins Bacon moved from 69 Fleet Street, London (after 85 years) to new premises south of the Thames during the winter of 1904–05. Jacob Perkins of Boston, USA founded the Fleet Street firm of ‘Perkins, Fairman and Heath’ in 1819. His daughter married a Mr Joshua Bacon, and the result was Perkins Bacon, both father and son being successively heads of the firm which, in 1840 (the ‘Year of the Penny Black’), was styled ‘Bacon and Petch’ and subsequently ‘Perkins Bacon and Company’. Incidentally, our ‘stamp’ was found by an American collector in an auction lot he purchased in the States. We're Happy To Combine Shipping On Multiple Orders To Help You Save!
