Item Description

This Lot is a 1906 India Scott #78 and #84 (x2) on Registered cover addressed from Burhanpur, India to Chicago, Illinois, and subsequently forwarded to Martinsville, Indiana. Cover is marked "Confidential / To be Opened by the addressee only" and bears Censor tape at left side as well as "PASSED CENSOR / 12 / BOMBAY" hand stamp. Stamps have deep rich coloring (one partially covered by censor tape), narrow margins on 2p and two margins at design edge on1/2 Anna, and trimmed perfs along left edge of all 3 stamps. Please see pictures for condition and quality. Stamps are tied to cover by Burhanpur, New York, Chicago markings and cover has Martinsville receiving stamp. Cover measures approximately 150 mm x 88 mm (has been shorted along right hand edge), has rounded corners and worn straight edges as well as postal wear on both surfaces. Lots of character and potential for further research!
