Item Description
1910 Argentina Santa Fe Rosario Municipal Revenue 1 Peso Prostitute Tax Used Rare "Con Regla" Cancellation. In Argentina, from 1893 to the 1920s, special stamps were used for prostitutes in accordance with the law introduced by the municipality of Rosario ( province of Santa Fe ), as well as Buenos Aires. The law required all registered prostitutes in these cities to undergo monthly medical examinations. For this purpose, stamps of a special sanitary fee ( spanish: Sello Servicio Sanitario ) were issued , which was levied on persons engaged in prostitution and subject to mandatory medical examination. The stamps were pasted into the prostitute's special health book, which she was obliged to show to her clients as proof that she was healthy. However, the clients themselves were not required to provide any documents confirming that they were not infected with sexually transmitted diseases. The stamps were numbered and cost 1 peso in Rosario and 2 pesos in Buenos Aires. They were canceled by the doctor with purple stamps with the text "SANA" (or "S" ) if the prostitute was healthy, "ENFERMA" (or "E" ) if infected, and "CON REGLA" (or "R" ) if the examination was not could have been made due to menstruation. In the last two cases, the prostitute was temporarily suspended from her work. There are stamps with a handwritten inscription “Reposición” , which meant the appointment of a repeat examination within a week. There are stamps of higher denominations, such as 4 and 4½ pesos, probably intended to pay fines for violations of regular medical examinations or treatment. Argentine stamps for prostitutes are included in the Forben catalog of fiscal stamps. Collections of similar brands are also known. In particular, in 1998, at the exhibition of the Philatelic Association of Rochester ( New York ) "ROPEX '98" a non-competitive exposition of association member Ann M. Triggle was presented , called "Servicio Sanitario Stamps of Rosario, Argentina" ("Sanitary Service Stamps of Rosario, Argentina"). WikipediaSeller Information
