1911 Germany Children’s Relief Day In Hamburg Poster Stamp Artist: Franz Karl Delavilla (1884-1967) Unused No GumThis Poster Stamp Was Issued For Kinderhilfstag, Or “Children’s Relief Day,” In Hamburg, 1911, As Indicated By The Small Monogram “1911” At The Bottom Right Of The Design. The Stamp Features A Vivid And Whimsical Illustration Of Two Blond Children Surrounded By Colorful Blossoms, Butterflies, And Playful Decorative Motifs, Representing Joy, Innocence, And Nature’s Abundance. The Children Are Stylized In An Art Nouveau Manner, Typical Of German Jugendstil Design From The Early Twentieth Century, And Appear To Be Engaged In Childlike frolic Amid A Rich Floral Backdrop. The Term “Kinderhilfstag” Referred To Charitable Fundraising Events Often Organized To Benefit Underprivileged Or Ill Children, Especially Orphanages Or Pediatric Hospitals. These Events Were Held In Major German Cities And Frequently Promoted Through Poster Stamps Like This One, Which Combined Cheerful Imagery With Civic Purpose. A wonderful original Art Nouveau Cinderella stamp depicting a poster titled Kinderhilfstag - or Children's Aid Day - held in Hamburg, Germany in 1911. The image is monogrammed and dated in the print by the Austrian artist, illustrator, designer and academic Franz Karl Delavilla. Delavilla created jewellery, posters, postcards and book illustrations among other decorative items for the Wiener Werkstatte from 1904 to 1932, having previously been taught by Carl Otto Czeschka and Berthold Loeffler, whose influence you can definitely see in this fabulous 1911 poster design.
