1911 postcard with postmark of USS Dixie, sent to Philadelphia PA. 4-bar handstamp, 1 cent franklin, view side is from Guantamo Bay, Cuba. Dixie, AD1, was built in 1893 and acquired by the navy in 1898. The post office operated 1909-1915 and 1917-1922; the ship served as an auxiliary cruiser and then destroyer tender, and was sold in 1922. Rated "C", like most other early naval postmarks, but I see fewer examples of Dixie than many other ships.Your satisfaction is guaranteed. APS member since 1992 and Hip seller since 1996.
