1912 Germany Poster Stamp 4th International Dog Show Nuremberg In Luitpoldhain October 20 And 21 Monday, October 21 Afternoon, Rat Catcher Test** Unused No Gum **The Rattenfänger-Prüfung, Or Rat Catcher Test, Was A Practical Dog Trial Held In The Late 19th And Early 20th Centuries, Especially In Germany And Austria, To Assess The Vermin-Hunting Abilities Of Certain Breeds. It Was Primarily Designed For Small Working Dogs Such As Fox Terriers, Dachshunds, Schnauzers, And Pinschers, Which Had Traditionally Been Used For Rat Control In Urban And Rural Settings. During These Trials, Dogs Were Placed In A Controlled Arena Or Pen Containing Live Rats, Sometimes Confined In Tubes Or Escape Boxes, And Judged On Their Instinct, Speed, Technique, And Determination In Locating And Dispatching The Rodents. The Goal Was To Evaluate The Dog's Effectiveness, Bravery, And Work Ethic, With Points Or Timed Scores Awarded Based On Performance. These Tests Were Often Included As Featured Events At Agricultural And Dog Exhibitions, Such As The 4th International Dog Show In Nuremberg In 1912, Where They Drew Public Interest And Helped Preserve Key Working Traits In Ratting Breeds. While Considered Normal And Useful At The Time, The Use Of Live Animals In These Tests Would Today Be Regarded As Inhumane And Is Prohibited In Most Countries Due To Modern Animal Welfare Standards. Nonetheless, The Rattenfänger-Prüfung Provides Historical Insight Into The Practical Origins Of Many Companion Dog Breeds And Their Early Evaluation As Functional Working Animals. This Poster Stamp Was Issued In 1912 To Promote The “IV. Internationale Hunde-Ausstellung Nürnberg” (4th International Dog Show Nuremberg), Held On October 20 And 21 In The Luitpoldhain Park, A Well-Known Venue For Public Exhibitions In Nuremberg. The Bold, Black-And-White Design Features A French Bulldog Sitting Proudly Within An Octagonal Border, Symbolizing The Prestige And Select Breeds Presented At The Event. The Typography Is Strong And Structured, Reflecting Early 20th-Century German Design Sensibilities, With Geometric Art Nouveau Influences Visible In The Frame Decorations. Notably, The Bottom Of The Stamp Announces A Special Feature For Monday, October 21: A “Rattenfänger-Prüfung” (Rat Catcher Test), A Trial Likely Designed For Terriers And Working Breeds To Demonstrate Vermin Control Skills—A Traditional Competitive and Practical Display Common At Dog Shows Of This Period. This Stamp Would Have Been Used As A Promotional Label Distributed By Organizers, Breeders, Or Enthusiasts To Advertise The Event And Commemorate Participation. No Visible Flaws Are Present On This Example. Visible Text (Rewritten In Sentence Form): German: IV. Internationale Hunde-Ausstellung Nürnberg Im Luitpoldhain 20. U. 21. Okt. 1912. Montag 21. Okt.
