Item Description
1913 Germany Poster Stamp Centenary Celebration The Battle of Leipzig Stop! Not Happen! Max Zieger Nehflg., Schlossplatz. Unused No Gum. In 1813, the German campaign was fought against the French Emperor Napoleon, his marshals, and the Confederation of the Rhine by the Sixth Coalition, which included Austria, Prussia, Russia, and Sweden. The Battle of Leipzig, which took place on October 19, 1813, was the culmination of the campaign and resulted in a French retreat after four days of fighting. The battle involved over 560,000 soldiers, 2,200 artillery pieces, and 133,000 casualties, making it the largest battle of the Napoleonic Wars and the largest battle in Europe before World War I. The victory at Leipzig allowed Prussia and the Germanic states to declare liberation from Napoleon's Grande Armée. Google AISeller Information
