Vintage Large 2 1/8" x 3 1/4" Germany Poster Stamp In Commemoration Of The 100th Anniversary Of The Wars Of Liberation And The 50th Anniversary Of The Opening Of The Hall Of Liberation Unused No Gum This German Poster Stamp Was Issued In 1913 To Commemorate Two Historic Anniversaries: The 100th Anniversary Of The Wars Of Liberation Against Napoleon (1813–1913) And The 50th Anniversary Of The Opening Of The Befreiungshalle, Or Hall Of Liberation, In 1863. The Design Features A Richly Colored Allegorical Scene With Four Cherubic Children Draped In Garlands Carrying A Large Festive Bavarian Flag, Which Bears The Dates 1813, 1863, And 1913 Encircling A Laurel Wreath. At The Right, A Regal Woman In A Flowing Gown Carries A Model Of The Befreiungshalle Monument On A Tray, Symbolizing National Pride And Architectural remembrance. A Stylized Ribbon Swirls Across The Sky Above A Bavarian Landscape With Church Steeple At Right. The Stamp Was Designed By Artist Ludwig Wirth, Whose Name Appears At Lower Right, And Is Rendered In A Distinct Jugendstil (Art Nouveau) Style Typical Of German Nationalistic Commemoratives Of The Era.
