Item Description
1913 Germany Poster Stamp Residence Theater Christmas Fairy Tale Rübezahl Unused No Gum. Artist: Elssner, Felix (German, 1866-1945). Rübezahl is a mythical mountain spirit and prankster in German, Polish, and Czech folklore. He is often depicted as an old man wearing a cloak, and is known as the "Lord of Mountain Weather" because he can control the weather from the mountaintops. Rübezahl is kind to the meek but vengeful to the insolent, and sometimes appears as a giant, gnome, or mountain spirit. He is said to teach medicine and give gifts to good people, but can exact severe revenge on those who insult him. Rübezahl has been featured in German literature, music, and culture since the 1500s, and was first mentioned in the 1565 poem Ribicinia by Franz von Koeckritz. He has also been the subject of several films, including Krakonoš's secret, Rübezahl - Herr der Berge, and Rübezahl's Wedding. WikipediaSeller Information
