1914 WW One France Imperforate Delandre Poster Stamp French 5th Foreign Infantry Regiment MNH. The French 5th Infantry Regiment fought in the Battle of Charleroi during World War I. The regiment was assigned to the 17th division and did not participate in combat operations. After the Armistice, the regiment performed occupation duty in Germany. The 5th Foreign Infantry Regiment (abbr. 5th REI, French: 5e Régiment Étranger d'Infanterie), nicknamed the "Regiment of Tonkin" (French: "Régiment du Tonkin"), was a regiment of the Foreign Legion of the French Army created under the Third Republic, and dissolved in 2000.
