1915 US Poster Stamp Panama-Pacific International Exposition Tower Of Jewels Main Entrance San Francisco Unused No GumThis Poster Stamp Was Issued In 1915 To Promote The Panama-Pacific International Exposition In San Francisco, A World’s Fair Celebrating The Opening Of The Panama Canal And Showcasing International Innovation And American Recovery From The 1906 Earthquake. The Stamp Features A Full-Color Illustration Of The Iconic “Tower Of Jewels,” The Main Entrance To The Exposition Grounds. The Tower, Standing Over 400 Feet Tall, Was Embellished With Over 100,000 Faceted Novagems—Cut Glass “jewels” That Reflected Sunlight By Day And Electric Illumination By Night—Creating A Dazzling Effect.
